Ophazines is a a group of friends providing free zines annually for public consumption. This is a fun project to bring artists together! We are currently on a bit hiatus to recover from RPG Maker Zine (2025).
Like I said, we're just pals. We are not a company, and we primarily do this for fun and the joys of collaboration!
RPZinemaker (2023) - RPZinemaker was our first zine. RPZinemaker was made to celebrate the legacy of RPG Maker games. We invited game devs as guest artists, and we had a guest mod, Cal Sabatani, help with putting the zine together. It was a really fun experience! It features 71 pages of art and written fiction, over 50 contributors, and fanart of games including classics and newer titles
My Figure Zine (2024) - My Figure Zine was our second zine celebrating figure collecting. We hoped to make a more experimental zine this time and tried new things. There were around 40 contributors total and fanart of a variety of popular and obscure figures!
RPG Maker Zine (2025) - A spiritual successor to RPZinemaker and the first Ophazines zine to have merchandise and a physical edition! Over 70 contributors, with guests from the leads/devs of YNOProject and other games, and includes fanart and merch of obscure and popular titles. The largest most collaborative zine Ophazines has made and will likely hold that title until the end of Ophazines lifespan.
Ophazines is an evolving project with mods that step in and out depending on the project. We are all just friends, and we are not professionals! Unlike many projects that have specific tasks for each mod, we may rotate tasks at times. The moderators are all adults with busy lives, and many of us are disabled, so we try to look out for each other generally.
Are you currently running a zine?
Ophazines uses ophazines.carrd.co to keep information generally unified as it's soething that can be easily read and checked. When a new zine is announced, the carrd is updated. Informations about specific zines are kept on carrd.
Why do you have a card and website?
The carrd acts as an easy way to get across information for zines currently running. It tends to get updated in a way that is not ideal for a static website like ophazines.net.
Where do you keep longform updates?
We use Tumblr for longform updates and link to them on our various platforms. I, ophanimkei, recognize this is not ideal. I plan to add a blog and askbox here before the next zine we host!
Age limits for zines?
Generally, nowadays, the zines have an 18+ requirement for entry regardeless of content inside. The age limit has increased with the aging of the mod team, and we feel it is the safest approach.
Physical releases?
Physical releases are possible for Ophazines in the future, but they tend to expensive, stressful endevors.
RPG Maker Zine (2025) has been planned since 2022. It was created in such a way to keep it as cost effective as possible to make the physical edition and merch cheaply produced and able to be sold at low costs. It was further discounted for contributors with different discounts for local and international contributors.
We are primarily interested in printing smaller, stapled zines now and other merch that can be made locally or mailed cheaply, butbefore that, we want to prioritize rest.
